Top Ten List

I asked Anna for her Top 10 Must-Watch Paranormal Movies, and here is what she says:

Supernatural comedies and atmospheric vampire tales, flying saucers and mummies on a rampage—I’ve watched just about every kind of paranormal flick imaginable. Now I share with you some of the spooky movies I’ve loved, many of which have inspired my writing in one way or another.

  1. Dracula. The iconic 1939 version starring Bela Lugosi remains one of all-time favorite movies to watch on Halloween, but I also love the 1979 version with Frank Langella, for its focus on the sensuality of Dracula.
  2. The Wolf Man. The 1941 original has to make my list, for the top-notch performances by tortured hero Lon Cheney Jr. and Claude Raines as his father.
  3. The Mummy. The 1999 remake featuring Brendan Fraser is one of my all-time favorite movies, of any genre. It’s got romance, adventure, and scares.
  4. The Mummy Returns. Of course I had to include the 2001 sequel too!
  5. Bell, Book & Candle. You can’t get much better than a witch comedy starring James Stewart and Kim Novak, with comic relief from Jack Lemmon. This 1958 movie is a charming and funny romance.
  6. Horror of Dracula. Another 1958 film, this one retells the Bram Stoker tale with a creepier spin. The towering Christopher Lee turns Drac into a menacing figure who frightens just by walking down a staircase.
  7. Jason & the Argonauts. I love this 1963 movie for the special effects by the legendary Ray Harryhausen, particularly the giant statue that comes to life. It’s also a pretty good movie overall, with great music to boot.
  8. The Shadow. Alec Baldwin starred in this atmospheric 1994 take on the old-time radio show, as a reformed bad guy who’s become the psychically gifted hero known as The Shadow. The film has a classy feel, weird supernatural stuff, and fantastic music, all of which I enjoy.
  9. I Married a Witch. Fredrick march costars with the blonde-bombshell icon Veronica Lake in this cute 1942 comedy about a Colonial-Era witch who falls for a mortal.
  10. Practical Magic. I never read the book it was based on, but I always enjoy watching the 1998 film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, since I love a good paranormal romance!

In March 2014, Anna Durand introduced a unique new series of paranormal romance novellas. For the first time ever, all four tales in the Reborn series are collected in one book.

Dawn woke up drowning, inside a tank in a laboratory straight out of a science fiction movie. Blinded by amnesia, she has no choice but to trust in the alluring stranger who pulls her out of the tank, but Jake Maxwell knows more than he cares to admit. Now Redeo Biotech, the company responsible for Dawn’s resurrection, is hunting them both.

As their passion for each other blossoms, Jake and Dawn must outwit their enemies and rediscover their past lives. But when their greatest foe rises from the ashes of ancient Egypt to destroy their future, only Jake and Dawn’s eternal connection has the power to save them.

This collection includes the novellas Reborn to Die, Reborn to Burn, the award-winning Reborn to Avenge, and Reborn to Conquer.

About Anna Durand

Anna Durand is an award-winning writer, a freelance librarian, and an audiobook addict. She specializes in steamy romances featuring spunky heroines and hunky heroes, in settings as diverse as modern Chicago and the fairy realm. Her romances have to date won eight awards and her novel Dangerous in a Kilt was chosen as Top Pick on The Romance Reviews. In her previous life as a librarian, she haunted the stacks of public libraries but never met any hot vampires hunting for magical books.
